Multichannel Eye Movement Integration Therapy
Multichannel Eye Movement Integration therapy (MEMI) is a groundbreaking, evidence-based, theoretical approach designed to transform how the brain processes and stores traumatic memories. Rooted in neuroscience and the principles of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), MEMI offers a safe, efficient, and effective alternative to traditional therapies.
Effective Relief fromTrauma Symptoms
Founded in the USA and rapidly gaining success across Southeast Asia, MEMI is becoming widely recognised as one of the most effective and efficient therapies available for the relief of trauma symptoms worldwide.
While many exposure-based methods and talk therapies, like EMDR and CBT, require you to keep revisiting painful memories to find some relief, MEMI does not require you to retell your past. MEMI works gently and non-invasively to help you process trauma without reliving it. Even long-standing trauma can show a noticeable reduction in symptoms in as little as one or two sessions.
How MEMI Works
Using a series of structured eye movements combined with targeted, verbal therapeutic prompts, MEMI helps the brain reorganise and restructure traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and reactivity. The results often offer more than just relief from symptoms; They offer a profound shift, creating lasting freedom and peace.
You do not need to share your traumatic experience unless you prefer to; instead, you will be asked about your thoughts, feelings, and sensory recollections associated with the event, and then asked to rate the intensity of the emotion and physical reactions related to those memories.
Using therapeutic dissociation, you will be asked to imagine and project the memory some distance away while you briefly think about it and simultaneously follow the structured, methodical movements of a pen with your eyes. As this is done, you will hear specific targeted verbal prompts designed to reset and reprocess your thoughts and feelings about the experience.
There is usually only a need to complete a series of four eye movement sets. An intensity assessment is conducted after each set.
At the end of the process, when thinking about the experience, you will find that the emotional and sensory intensity has reduced, leaving you feeling more neutral and lighter about the whole incident. The memory remains, but it no longer elicits the same emotional reactivity. MEMI simply and safely diffuses the distress by targeting the limbic system's reaction to traumatic experiences.
Each session should last no longer than one hour, and your treatment should be completed within 3-4 sessions.
If you’ve spent years in traditional therapy without significant change, then MEMI may come as a welcome new approach. MEMI is the future of trauma care, offering immediate, meaningful and long lasting relief, empowering you to live life freely and unimpeded.
*Assessments are conducted using the globally recognised Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUD) & the I-scale, an assessment tool specifically designed for MEMI to measure changes in sensory intensity before and after eye movement procedures.
